These are some of the questions people most frequently ask me:

What equipment do I need to take part?

There is no specialist equipment required for these classes. Only basic items like paper or a notebook, pens or pencils, a candle, blanket or cushion for example. There may be one or two specific items depending on the theme, e.g. in the fire class you will need a candle with lighter or matches and a bucket or pot for a burning ceremony. You will recieve and email 10 days before the class giving you an overview of what to expect, what you will need and how to prepare.

Will I need to be on camera during the Zoom sessions?

This 5 class workshop series intended to be an intimate group experience for small group of 8 people. The intention for each and every session is for people to feel connected, cared for, safe and secure. We will sit in (virtual) circle together to listen to, witness and support each other as our individual and collective experience unfolds. A vital component to creating trust and safety in the nervous system is for us to be able to see each other so we can pick up verbal, non verbal communication and body language.

It is therefore important that you are able to attend the sessions in a location where you will be undisturbed and can minimise distractions so that you also feel safe showing up authentically and feel free to show vulnerable parts of yourself.

Can I practise between sessions too?

Absolutely! During each class we will connect to, interact with, embody and relate to the element. The invitation for you after the class, is to continue this practice for at least a week. Perhaps with a mini embodiment practice that you cultivate from the experience you have in the class. Or you may in fact feel called to set yourself an action or intention to complete, before the next class. You will have access to the replay for in between classes and so can dip back into it as much as you like in between the live classes.

Do You have any tips to help me get to the most from these sessions?

  1. Commit to show up to each and every class no matter how you are feeling. Be open to all the medicine and wisdom each element has to teach you.
  2. Be open to trying things that your mind might have differing opinions about. Treat this as an opportunity to get to know yourself and your self imposed limitations and stories you have about who you are and what you can / cannot do.
  3. Be an active participant by ensuring you are present, engaged and connected to your intention.
  4. Follow the group guidelines of the 4 agreements:
    • Be impeccable with your word
    • Do not take anything personally
    • Do not make assumptions
    • Always do your best

Meet Your Coach: Emma Smillie

As a somatic coach, my mission is to transform sensitivity into strength and promote internal balance. I aim to shift individuals from self-doubt to courageously pursuing their desired lives.

Overcoming autoimmune ailments, trauma, injury, and grief has shown me the importance of the right kind of support during adversity. Recognizing challenges as life's redirections or growth opportunities can reignite possibility.

My method of fostering post-traumatic growth is nurturing, playful, and sometimes challenging. I draw from over 40 years of life experience, coaching certifications, professional training & supervision and personal practice. I customize client experiences using tools like creative expression, art, movement, mindfulness, storytelling, meditation, projection cards, shadow work, and constellations to rebuild safety and empowerment in the BodyMind.

I focus on helping those who have faced profound loss move beyond just watching life pass by. I aim to help them embrace and care for every part of themselves, so they can be present in their lives feeling calm, confident, capable and empowered to craft the life they've always wanted to live.
